Limping In Budapest
This is my first trip to Budapest. Yet, I feel like I already know this capital of Hungary. I vividly recall the T.V. images of Russian tanks rolling up Budapest streets in 1956. “The Americans encouraged our revolt, then they abandoned us”, a resident tells me. Sadly, I am wearing a heavy walking boot on my right foot- to help heal a stress fracture.Walking fast is out of the question. No matter, I plug forward ever so slowly.
I am walking central Budapest. Well maintained parks and carefully decorated shops make the surroundings pleasant, despite my limp. I am determined to walk 5 kilometers. After a refreshing cafe latte, I succeed.
