In the morning I take my last exploratory walking work-out around the more barren part of Viequez. There are not a lot of folks around. Traffic is light. Then, lugging a suitcase, I take a cab back into the port. I walk some more to get a better feel for downtown Vieques, and finally find one of a few waterfront pubs. As the sun sets the live music begins. Sixty something ex-pats and younger locals mingle having great fun. I meet folks who are charged with cleaning up the former bombing range. Their presence helps boost the local economy.
By the time the sun rises I am again being splashed by pleasing waves churned by the fast launch on its way to the Puerto Rico mainland, and civilization!
