As romantic as it was walking along Canaco Bay and the Philippine Sea I remembered that at the end of the day I am a road warrior. The roads in the vicinity of Cavity were narrow and many had no shoulders. Many smaller and some what poorer homes lined the roads. Remembering the 300 year colonial occupation of the Philippine Islands by Spain I assumed my Spanish would help me communicate. Not really! Apparently there are 4000 Spanish words used in the Tagalog language. Sadly there are apparently 40,000 Tagalog words, Yet, I did stop in front of homes to speak to porch sitting folks. I got by. And these “rural” people were really nice.
