Vasco de Gama and Me
I have long felt that I should have been born several centuries ago. For me even the 1400’s Age of Discovery was 100 years too late. I would have loved to be one of the early Portuguese sea explorers. In grade school we learned all about these daring individuals. Bartholemu Diaz was one of many but my favorite was always Vasco de Gama the man who first circumnavigated the globe. He was the first to sail around the Cape of Good Hope at the horn of Africa. He then landed in Calcutta, India finally establishing lucrative trade with Europe.
De Gamma and countrymen sailed in newly designed Caravel ship which enabled them to take better advantage of the wind. And so,my own age of discovery brings me to the sores of the Atlantic Ocean and Lisbon.
